Life can be very overwhelming, and it’s so easy for life to sweep our feet from underneath us and pull us out into the deep where we’re barely able to keep our heads above water. While there is no cure for the craziness in life, there are things we can do to lessen the stress of it all. It starts with being intentional.
Being intentional is something I have been striving to accomplish this year, and I have found that if I am more intentional with my mornings, my days go so much smoother. I would like to encourage you to be more intentional with your mornings as well by conquering these 5 things before your day even starts!
Water that is! Dehydration can wreck your whole day by causing things like fatigue, headaches, muscle cramps, irritability, brain fog, light headedness, constipation, and probably several other unpleasantries I’m forgetting. And who has time for any of that? I don’t, and I’m sure you don’t either. So, before you do anything else in the morning, hydrate your whole body with a tall glass of cool and refreshing plain ol’ H2O.
Move! Move! Move!
Let’s be honest. Squeezing in time to go to the gym or getting any sort of workout done after work can be challenging and seems like such a chore. Eliminate the stress of it all by getting up a little earlier and getting your workout done before you head out the door for the day. Besides, studies show that those who workout in the morning tend to handle stress better throughout the day as well as feel more energized, confident, focused and satisfied.
Keep in mind that you do not have to go to a gym to workout. Personally, I hate going to the gym and I’d much rather workout at home, which is why I love my treadmill and Beachbody programs. Many of Beachbody’s fitness programs can be done in just 30 minutes a day, in the comfort of your own living room, and without any equipment. My personal favorite is the 21 Day Fix! That’s another story for another post though!
Have A Date With God
Just like working out, finding time later in the day to sit down by yourself, in a quiet and peaceful place, can be challenging to say the least. And most of us have a tendency to not look at bible study and prayer as a priority when it should be, so it often times get put on a back burner and forgotten about. Instead, why not start your day on a positive note by spending time with God, studying your bible and praying, before the chaos of the day even starts. Not only will this get you in the habit of doing devotions every day, but it may also help you start your day feeling more at peace.
Make Your To-Do List
We all have so much to do and so little time to do it, so making a list and prioritizing what it is you need to do for the day is a must! List the places you need to stop, calls you need to make, mail you need to send, chores that need done, meals that need prepped and so on. Then make a realistic plan as to how and when you’ll tackle each item on your list. If something isn’t fitting into your day, ask yourself if it’s really a necessity or if there would be a better day and time to take care of it.
Making this list may seem a little stressful, but I assure you that it will also greatly reduce your stress for the day by giving a solid and well organized plan to take on the day.
If you do absolutely nothing else on this list, do this. When you wake up in the morning, your body is on E. It’s been fasting for hours, using what energy it did have to repair cells and keep you alive while you were sleeping. It needs and deserves to be fueled. Without fuel, your body cannot do it’s job correctly, which could lead your metabolism being sluggish, your blood sugar bouncing around, difficulty concentrating, low energy levels, and a mess of other things that can make for a not so great day.
Breakfast doesn’t have to be something super elaborate. It can be something as simple as a breakfast bar, Greek yogurt and fruit, or my personal favorite, a tall shaker full of Shakeology mixed with almond milk! Or Chocolate Shakeology blended with some all natural peanut butter and a banana! Yum! Just something with a healthy balance of fat, carbs, protein and nutrients to get your body fueled and ready to go!
Are you already doing any of these tasks first thing in the morning? Or do you have a task that you feel should be added to the list?
